Artists from Polk County and surrounding areas are invited to participate in a special theme-based art competition hosted at the Cedartown Performing Arts Center.
A public opening reception and awards ceremony will be held on Thursday, Nov. 6, at 6 p.m. inside the
performing arts center. Selected art will be displayed in until Monday, Dec. 22.
Artists over the age of 18 can submit up to two works of art. Some of the accepted mediums include oil, acrylic, watercolor, and pastel paintings; and graphite, pen and ink, charcoal, colored pencil, and pastel pencil drawings. Sculptures, photography, and digital art are also welcomed.
Cash prizes of $100, $75, and $50 will be awarded, along with ribbons for first, second, and third place.
The contest will be judged by an out-of-town professional art juror.
This year’s theme focuses exclusively on Polk County history—from beloved landmarks and historic homes to local parks, people, and cultural icons (think Winnie-the-Pooh and Sterling Holloway). Entries may highlight subjects from across the county, including Cedartown, Rockmart, and Aragon. Artists from neighboring counties are welcome, but all artwork must connect directly to Polk County. For inspiration and research, participants are encouraged to visit the Polk County Historical Society Museum, located at 205 S. College Street in Cedartown.
